Welcome at the Echoput***** | It's all about flavour and tasting!
If you only know Holland as a flat country you're in for a suprise. Hotel Gastronomique De Echoput lies amidst 11.000 hectares of the Crown Forest, the original hunting grounds of the Dutch Royal Family. The Royal Palace of Het Loo (now a national museum) is our esteemed neighbour. De Echoput is a wonderful gastronomic spot to eat, sleep, meet and above all: to enjoy!
De Echoput is named after a historic deep well with a nice sounding echo. It was dug between 1809 and 1811 by the first King of Holland, Lodewijk Napoleon, brother of the emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Queen Wilhelmina (1880-1962) gave the order for a small restaurant to be built near the echoput for the many tourists that came to visit the well. This restaurant gradually turned into a gastronomic restaurant, which is now considered as one of the corner stones of Dutch gastronomy. The first Michelin star was already awarded in 1967. De Echoput is still owned and operated by the Klosse family. The newly rebuilt hotel opened in 2007 and was rewarded in Beverly Hills by the IRHA as: "Best new luxury restaurant of the world".
Tasting and flavour, finding the perfect matches of wine and food, is the passion of the owner dr. Peter Klosse. He wrote several gastronomic books on the subject, and obtained his PhD. at the University of Maastricht for his thesis "The Concept of Flavour styles to classify flavours". Peter is founder of De Academie voor Gastronomie, and Professor at Stenden University in Leeuwarden and also at Maastricht.
